Meet The Animals On The Farm:
- The Horses range in ages and breeds. All are specifically trained and nurtured to participate in the wide variety of educational opportunities on the farm. Many of the horses have come to Tambourine Farms from rescue situation and have undergone extensive rehabilitation and all are eager to interact with loving humans. Some are trained for driving, some are trained for vaulting, all are trained for riding and all love a good grooming.
- The cows are registered Mini Herefords and enjoy roaming the field working on natural pasture maintenance but also love to come up and get a good scratch and an apple or other treat whenever offered.
- The pig is a special breed Kune Kune a smaller breed and very friendly as well as very smart. She roams the raised bed garden helping with weed maintenance around the raised vegetable beds
- The goats are of two breeds Nubian and Borher their playful antics are so much fun to watch as the bound across their yard as if on springs. Spring brings the babies which are the most playful however even the adults like a good romp now and then. Daily milking is a fun activity and then when the babies are young feeding them with a bottle is often a possibility
- The ducks are a mix of breeds some racers, pekings, mallards, and others. Their eggs are great for baking and they take seriously their job of keeping the insects at bay from around the vegetable garden
- The chickens live in age sets with one male and several females to each flock. They also enjoy foraging for insects, they lay a wide range of colored eggs which are collected on a daily basis.
- The cats help to keep the rodent population out of the hay and grain for the other animals but when not hunting they love nothing better than to sit in your lap and play with a feather
- The dogs… The Australian Shepard is the working dog and strives to keep everyone in line The Golden Retrievers are the greeting committee and the therapy crew and specialize in providing the services that are needed be it a hug or a quiet reading companion.
